Obese Girls Perform Worse in School Than Peers, Study Finds

A new study finds girls who are obese at age 11 and remain obese perform worse academically than their peers of healthier weights.

According to an article from U.S. News, a new study has found that female students who are overweight in their adolescence tend to have lower performance in school. While this was less conclusive for guys, the research result for female students overall illustrated that girls who were obese at age 11, on average, scored a D in core subjects such as English, math and science.

Personally, I absolutely can agree to this finding because, in my opinion, obesity reflects individual’s lack of overcoming a temptation and self-management skills. Hence, failure to equip with the skills will obviously have some effects on one’s performance in daily life.

Some Kids Eat More Veggies With New School Lunch Rules

According to a news article from USA Today, by introducing new standard lunch rules to school, where students are encouraged to consume at least one fruit or vegetable, the outcomes came out to have both advantage and disadvantage effects. This new lunch policy at school not only brought positive effect by encouraging more students to have better diets, but also brought negative result by increasing the amounts of food being eliminated.

This article regarding new school lunch rules will be really beneficial for health in a long-term, especially in the 21st century where fast foods and genetically modified products are easily exposed to all ages. By having good nutritional diets at school, this will stop the increase rate of infertility, faster aging and hypertension.
